Making better wines while taking better care of the planet is the mission of Bodegas Enguera, an ecological cellar run by the third generation of a Valencian family
Sustainability is at the heart of the business, and they have been running organic agriculture projects since 2014 that have allowed them to apply techniques that go well beyond the demands for certification. One example is the bat conservation project in the vineyards to control the grapevine moth population. Each bat can consume more than 1000 insects in a single night, so the cellar began installing boxes in the vineyards as stable refuges for the bats. During the months from May to September, the bats flutter around every night, creating a truly spectacular sight.
The cellar is located in area of Enguera, which is 1 hour from Valencia and from Alicante, and it also hosts classic wine tourism activities like visits to the cellars, wine tasting sessions and samples of local produce.
