El Pinet de Santa Pola Route

Santa Pola is a paradise for bird lovers, with many different spots for birding: the mountains, the cape, the coastline and especially the Las Salinas Natural Park. These wetlands were declared to be of International Importance, included in the RAMSAR list and Natura 2000 and were also declared to be a Special Protection Area. They form part of the marshland’s triangle of El Hondo and Torrevieja–La Mata, and the beauty and diversity of the area makes it one of the best locations in the Iberian Peninsula for observing birds.

Santa Pola Aquarium and Memorial Ship

Visit the oldest aquarium in the Region of Valencia.

It is made up of 9 large seawater tanks displaying the main species of fauna and flora found this part of the Mediterranean. It’s a must if you want to learn more about the marine environment and an ideal complement to help you identify more species in your snorkelling sessions. Most of the species in the aquarium have been donated by the sailors from Santa Pola. The water is taken directly from the sea and, after treatment, it’s pumped to the aquariums.

Floating Museums: Submarine S-61 Delfín and Patrol Ship Albatros III

Torrevieja is one of the few places where you can visit the inside of a submarine to experience the crew’s living conditions for yourself.

The visit covers all areas of the ship so it will delight submarine lovers and all those who’re not claustrophobic. This vessel is also accessible for visitors with reduced mobility thanks to a vertical lift with an access gangway and railings.

Art al Vent

The town of Gata de Gorgos has rescued and revived the popular tradition of placing damasked or embroidered sheets of cloth on balconies during processions, which until recently was a very deeply rooted tradition in the region of the Marina Alta. This tradition has given birth to the Art al Vent festival, promoted by the Escuela de Plàstica Experimental.
