Description

El Fondo Natural Park is located between the cities of Elx and Crevillent in the Region of Bajo Vinalopó. It is the second most important wetland in the Region of Valencia, just behind the Albufera, with an area of 2,387 ha. 

Salinas de Santa Pola Natural Park

Description

Salinas de Santa Pola Natural Park is a typical example of how human action has created unique ecosystems that are still present today thanks to an economic activity such as salt production. The park has an area of 2,470 ha and is located next to El Hondo Natural Park of El Hondo, between the municipalities of Elche and Santa Pola.

The collection of the Mesozoic era includes pieces from the Triassic, Jurassic and Cretaceous periods, with importance being given to the first Prognathodon tooth discovered in the Spanish Levante, Castalla (Alicante), by Mr. Manuel García Ávila, and also to the Ammonite pieces of the Blas Giner Site, La Querola and Canteres de Comellars, as well as fossils of the Sierra de Mariola Natural Park.

MUPE: Elche Palaeontological Museum

Marine reptiles, replicas of dinosaurs, remains of mastodons… A fascinating universe that leads us to the Paleozoic Period, with workshops and audiovisuals. All this and much more awaits the visitor in the MUPE.

The more than 1,200 fossil and models displayed within its halls provide a complete tour of the exciting history of life on our planet. It is made up of two floors.

Tabarca Island, an inhabited Marine Reserve paradise

Tabarca Island is a small island that covers an area of only 0.3 km2. It is actually a small archipelago 1,800 m long and 400m wide. Santa Pola is the closest point on the peninsula to Tabarca Island (3 miles), which is the only inhabited island in the Region of Valencia. Tabarca is a unique destination with an interesting history that reminds us of what inspired artists and caught the eye of pirates. In fact, in order to end piracy, the island was fortified and inhabited by residents of Tabarqah (Tabarka) Island in Tunisia.
