The Generalitat supports sustainability and cycling

The Generalitat, through the Department of Territorial Policy, Public Works and Mobility, has started the process for creating the Territorial Sector Action Plans (PATS) for the Network of Non-Motorized Itineraries in the Region of Valencia. This network is intended to cover 3,360 kilometres distributed among 289 cycling routes.

The Network of Non-Motorized Itineraries currently has 1,107 kilometres of active routes for walkers and cyclists laid out in 119 cycle routes, the average length of which is 8.8 kilometres (lengths vary greatly, from a 300m stretch of the CR-645 to the 76.7 kilometres of the Ojos Verdes Green Route. The network runs through 173 municipal areas, which accounts for 32% of all the towns in the region, and the majority of the infrastructures that form part of it (51.7%) function exclusively as routes for cyclists.

Valencia is the province which has the most kilometres for walkers and cyclists, with 417 kilometres (41%), followed by Alicante, with 367 kilometres (36%), and finally Castellón, with 233 kilometres (23%).

All the developments proposed in the study prepared for inclusion in the Non-Motorised Itineraries amount to 2,350 kilometres of routes for walkers and cyclists, distributed among 225 cycle routes, 55 of which already exist, and which will then be completed.

This framework plans to carry out interventions in five areas: completion of existing cycle routes; connections between towns; regular mobility; recreational mobility and infrastructure permeability.

It is also planned to create a series of itineraries for walkers and cyclists that can be integrated into other routes and long-distance recreational and tourism itineraries like the Eurovelo EV-8, the Vía Litoral (Coastal Route) of the Region of Valencia, the green routes and others that offer easier access to spaces of natural, scenic and environmental interest.
